sick...

...is what I am. A cold like I haven't had since the last time I had a cold, I suppose. I stayed home yesterday, watched at least 7 episodes of The Office, napped, ate a lot more than a sick person probably should (why is it that when everyone else gets sick they lose their appetite, and when I'm sick, it just grows?) and finally unpacked from Christmas. My room now has a number of new framed pictures of my ever growing family, a pile of African literature alongside my Zulu language cds and a hoard of toblerone wrappers in the trash from the world's largest box of toblerones one of my cousins gave me.

I'm off to house sit this weekend, which usually means a lot of time in the sun and some surfing, but this particular weekend will probably mean a lot of time in bed and indulging in my guilty pleasure - DeGrassi: The Next Generation. To all you Canadians who read this blog - please withhold judgment and rely on the deeper side of me I share with you by way of this blog to balance out the fact that I would willingly watch episode after episode of DeGrassi on a Saturday afternoon, sick or not. At least this weekend I have a good excuse.

Que todos tengan un buen fin de semana!

Awww. Suckies.

Here's wishing you a very speedy recovery.

I can't judge you on the Degrassi stuff. Because 1) I'm a Canadian. And B) I've seen every episode of "The O.C."

I'm sorry to read that you are suffering from a cold over a weekend. I've been lucky enough to avoid any major illness for quite some time now and am grateful for it. I was sorry to read in your previous blog that the "one" didn't work out for you. Guys who are fresh out of some longterm relationship are usually damaged goods for a bit. They say that it takes half the time of the relationship to get your head straight again and I believe that to be a pretty good measure. As I read your blogs I can't help but think you are betting so much future happiness on finding Mr. Right. Might I suggest being happy by yourself first...I don't mean to sound harsh. It wasn't until I was happy being alone that I was able to really just be me all of the time and genuinely be happy all of the time.

Being sick sucks. But it does give an excuse to bum around and do whatever you want!

Hope you feel better soon!!

Hopefully you're feeling a little better now that the weekend is here. I've just been working sooooo much that it feels like I'm sick. I wake up and have no energy and when I take a nap, I wake up feeling more tired than I did before I took it. I've sourced out the 1'st two seasons of Grey's and have access to all the new ones so I know what I'm doing the next time I get sick. :)

Get better.

Thanks all! What a nice surprise to sign on on a saturday afternoon to well wishes. I am feeling better - and I think it's entirely because I got something like 11 hours of sleep last night (DIVINE) and have done little but watch movies since I got to the house I'm housesitting at. That and a little spooning action with Koti (my housesitting charge) can't hurt!

Peter - my condolences on The O.C. I watched the first season religiously and then moved and no longer have a t.v. There are a lot more DeGrassi reruns when I'm housesitting than the OC, or else I probably wouldn't discriminate.

Me: I am honored!

Arhtur: Do you know I don't think I've seen more than one episode of the original? But my best friend, whose taste in cheesy t.v. is unparalleled, swears by it.

Anon: Great recommendation!

notfearingchange: first off - great name :) Second - hope you get some surfing in this weekend on both our behalfs. The waves here are great! Maybe tomorrow for me...

Random Guy: You are 100% correct. That's one of the reasons I made it a point to take a while before getting into a relationship after my last break up - I wanted to know I knew who I was alone, and was o.k. with that. I think in my head, it's been long enough - but at the same time, I'm still more or less terified of commitment so while I have an "aw shucks" attitude when something doesn't work out, a little piece of me is also relieved - because it means more time to do my own thing, and less risk of getting involved before I'm really ready. Honesty is always welcome here!

Maria: I am SO living up the bumming around side of being sick. So much so that I left some of my chocolate lying around and I think the dog ate it. Only a small piece though...am I the worst dog sitter ever!?!

James: Thanks - and hope you are enjoying some downtime, sick or not!

Megs, I can't believe I'm doing this. We just hooked up my new flat screen monitor and your Dad suggested I read your blog. Who are all these people who send you comments? Who is Degrassi? What is this world coming too? Zicam is the best for curing a cold........I just took the cure and feel much better. Love, Mom

Dear, that's quite alright. I only just recently worked a Charmed re-run obsession out of my system. And I go around admitting this to friends, as well, mainly I think because I love seeing them cringe. Degrassi and chicken soup will cure you nicely.
